DARRELL E. LEAR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

DARRELL E. LEAR was born on January 28, 1947 in Zanesville to Burl and Margaret "Peg" Brock Lear and died on Saturday, January 1, 2011. Darrell was a 1965 Graduate of Zanesville High School and was employed by Zanesville City Schools as the Food Service Coordinator and Construction Liaison. He previously was the Transportation Coordinator for Zanesville City Schools and worked for AEP/ Central Ohio Coal Company. Darrell was the President of the Muskingum County Democratic Party, a member of the Board of Elections, Ohio High School Athletic Association, a Soccer Official, Jury Commissioner, a member of Lodge of Amity #5 F.&A.M., and a member of First Christian Church where he served as Deacon. Darrell formerly served on the Zanesville City Zoning Board and Planning Commission.

Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Judy Hutchins Lear of the home; two sons, Brad (Misty) Lear of Zanesville, and Jeremy (Christina) Lear of Arizona;  two brothers, John "Bill" (Rose) Lear of Dresden and Richard "Dick" (Pam) Lear of Zanesville; two sisters, Beryl Lynn Dennis of Zanesville and Roxanne (Jody Dennis) Lear of Zanesville; and a granddaughter, Mercedez Lear; and many nieces and nephews.

The D.E.L. Foundation was founded in 2011 in memory of Darrell. The proceeds from an annual golf outing has provided donations to the American Cancer Association. In May 2018, the foundation in coordination with the Zanesville Alumni Association awarded the first two Darrell E. Lear Memorial Scholarships to Leikyn Dal Ponte and Samuel R. Straker, 2018 Zanesville High School graduates.

 

Since then Cobe Curry, Paige Jackson, Melena Moore and Michael Durham have received the Darrell E. Lear Memorial Scholarship
